Web 2.0~If you haven’t been hiding under a rock, you know what this is and how powerful and important it is to take full advantage of this web trend. There are new forms of communication, lots of massive innovation and you can use it to develop your own applications and them to your arsenal of tools.
Here are just a few suggestions to get you started and bring you up to speed:
*Web Apps: solve a real customer problem. Period. If you do so, they won’t hesitate to us it over traditional software. Traditional software apps are being replaced by web apps so jump on board ASAP. Grab and use new tools: video, Accounting, CRM, etc.
*Mobile Apps: More and more companies are developing apps to be used via wireless connection. Very hot trend right now and exploding in growth. Apple and Google are already there with Microsoft right on their heels.
*Online Video: Simply put, business websites with video directly translate to increased traffic. Lots of room for startups, especially in a particular niche.
*Blogging: If you are into implementing blogs rather than starting a blog-related business, this may be for you. Blog-powered websites will phase out the lonely, static corporate website.
*Web 2.0 Consulting: Self-explanlatory!
*Look for Booming Businesses: Financial Planning and Travel, etc.~Advisory Services.
What is the baby boomer up to these days? There are not so technically-challenged that they can’t find their way around the internet. So, what problems are they trying to solve and what information are they seeking?
They are planning for retirement and also looking for ways to take care of their aging parents and their college-bound children. Solve these problems and you have a vibrant business on your hands.
They also want to travel. And not just your usual travel experience~they want a different, meaningful, exotic experience. There is a big market right now for group travel: university alumni, volunteer groups and singles for example.
The good thing for you and me is that these baby boomers have no interest in doing this type of Web 2.0 development on the web. They know how to use the internet, but they don’t want to write the manual. They do things like write blogs, participate somewhat in social networking, playing games, listening to podcasts and downloading music.
So armed with this fistful of information, take it an run with it. Start a new business. Let me know how I can help!
